"What a Twist!"

New drink recipe from Scott & Suzi's Decadent Drinks for Island Imbibement!

Dinner was Suzi's Mexican Lasagna, drink of the night was Scott's top shelf golden margarita.  After dinner, another drink was called for, but another margarita just didn't fit the bill. Without switching gears too much, Scott came up with something a little different... a "twist" on the margarita, if you will.

Featured Restaurant/Bar/Resort: Florida Keys Brewing Company

Living The Island Life...Drinking The Local Beer

Florida Keys Brewing Company in Islamorada is the only brewing company in the Florida Keys.

If you walk down Morada Way on most days, you can smell the hops and other wonderful aromatic odors coming out of a true brewing operation.

And the beer is really good!

Craig and Cheryl McBay own and run FKBC.

They founded the brewing company on these principles:

Brewing as an art,
enjoying great beer,
and living the island life.

Located at 200 Morada Way in Islamorada, Craig and Cheryl started the company with the hopes of bringing great beer to our chain of islands and meeting the thirsty needs of its inhabitants. They have succeeded.

All of the island themed beers are brewed with top quality ingredients to make the best beer possible, including:
Hogfish Amber, Run Aground Brown, Man O War Wheat, and Sunsessional IPA (my favorite!)

Their tasting room is a beautiful work of art...the inside walls are tiled with bottle caps, and local artists like Pasta Pantaleo and Wyland have left their mark on the walls inside and out.

And their colorful Key-sey logo is art as well.

Stop by the Florida Keys Brewing Company, check out the brewing process, and then relax in the tasting room and enjoy these locally brewed craft beers.
They even have flights available if you want to try them all!  And, be sure and buy your very own growler so you can take home some of your favorite.

Decadent Drinks: Decadence Is What You Make It

Decadent drinks start with premium booze.  That's pretty simple.  But, that isn't the extent of it.  The art of decadent mixology is about creating decadence, or better yet, not even considering anything less than decadence in every drink.  Decadence is what you make it.

Scott and I recently returned from a vacation to Fraser, Colorado.  It was a three week trip all told, but ten glorious days in the Rocky Mountains.  While we did enjoy drinks and meals at a few local establishments, and we did  avail ourselves of the local cuisine (yes, much to my surprise, Rocky Mountains Oysters are real...I always thought it was a joke,) most nights we cooked in and made drinks from our own mobile bar.

Who Pooped In the Pool?

Yeah, you read that right.  "Who pooped in the pool" is the newest decadent drink for island imbibement.

Inspired by a recent problem...an iguana has decided that the branch directly above our pool is his toilet seat.  Therefore, you guessed, that makes the pool the toilet bowl.  Pretty disgusting.  Had to drain the pool when we realized what was happening.  Now we have to keep it covered to protect it from iguana guano.

True Story.

Featured Restaurant/Bar/Resort: Chad's Deli

Ask a local where to get the best deli sandwich in the upper Keys and they will tell you Chad's.  Ask a local where to get the best pizza in the upper Keys and they will tell you Chad's.  Ask a local... well you get the idea.  Sandwiches, pizza, burgers, pasta, the best chicken salad (ever, hands down, period) and so much more...ask a local and they will tell you to go to Chad's Deli.

I can tell you honestly that Chad feeds me at least weekly (sometimes more.)  I'm partial to the chicken salad (did I mention that it's the best ever, hands down, period) on the homemade pumpernickel bread, both the California Cobb and the Santa Fe salads, and Chad's No-Carb Pan Fry is to die for...and mostly healthy!  But, everything is great.

All of the breads are homemade,
and so are the desserts/pastries.

The list of homemade soups is quite impressive, and every one more delicious than the last.  I do tend to favor the Mushroom Brie, but the Crab & Lobster Bisque is close to heaven.  Their menu is on the website, check it out ( www.chadsdeli.com ) and you can see all the soups, breads, etc. - they even serve breakfast every day except Monday.

The staff are all friendly, the service quick and efficient.  They serve beer and wine.  Eat-In or Take-Out, either way, Chad's is a local's favorite.  Be sure and ask for the Locals Loyalty Card.  It's $10 a year, but the proceeds go to Coral Shores High School and it entitles you to discounts, rewards and special offers.

Featured Restaurant/Bar/Resort: Skippers Dockside

A new addition to Key Largo this season, Skipper's Dockside has been welcomed by locals and tourists alike.  The renovations to the property are spectacular (especially for those of us who remember the prior establishment!)

With several bars, a huge tiki bar, gorgeous views, live music every night, and top quality food and specialty drinks, Skipper's is a very welcome addition to the upper Keys.

The menu is largely seafood dishes, but there are also plenty of choices to please the land-lubbers.
The specialty drink menu contains the usual suspects like margaritas, mojitos, shipwrecks, and daiquiris.  But, it also contains some interesting twists on your favorites as well some new and, in some cases, quite different flavor combinations.

My personal favorite is the "Reel 'Em In."
Mezcal, cilantro, serrano chili, cucumber, lime and sugar cube... it is the most unusual, and one of the most delicious and drinkable cocktails I've ever had.
They go down waaay too easy!

Skipper's features some of the upper Keys best musicians 7 days a week: Scott Youngberg, Lee Sharp, Bob Bonnen and Reggie Paul just to name a few.

If you haven't been to Skipper's Dockside yet, do yourself a favor.  Go for dinner, drinks, and music in a relaxed and fun setting.  You'll be glad you did!

Featured Restaurant/Bar/Resort: Dillon's Irish Pub & Grill

“Go where the locals go.”

I am partial to Dillon’s because it’s my neighborhood pub.  It also happens to be a great place.  The food is fabulous, the staff is friendly and well-trained, the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting, and it is always fun.  Pool, darts, video golf, and trivia are always on the menu at Dillon’s.

That menu also includes award winning wings; salads; sandwiches; the best burgers in town; steaks and fish (of course.)  They will even cook your catch.

Every Thursday is Irish Day, complete with Corned Beef & Cabbage, Irish Stew, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers & Mash, and more.

Along with a wide variety of beers and a full bar, Skyler, Klara, Tara, Shy and Woobie run the best bar in town.

Dillon’s is the place to go…it’s where the locals go.

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

The Florida Keys certainly know how to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

There is so much going on around town today.  If you are looking for somewhere to go for corned beef and cabbage, good beer and lots of people wearing all manner of tacky green things, you don't have to look far.

Dillon's Pub & Grill in Tavernier Towne is already serving up the goods and the party continues all day and into the night with live music starting up at 8 tonight.

The Lorelei is serving corned beef, cabbage, carrots and 'taters from Noon for as long as it lasts.  Live music all day.

Don't miss Robby McClung's big Bluegrass Bash party at oo-tray.  Music starts at 6:30, $20 for multiple great bands.  This will be a night of awesome music.  Drink and food specials too.

You can find me tonight at the Florida Keys Brewing Company.  Scott will be playing 5-9.  Lots of wonderful craft beers available, but they say absolutely NO green beer!  They don't serve food, but allow outside food, so I will be providing some yum yum's.  Got a crock pot full of corned beef and cabbage that will be going into puff pastry's here in a little while.  So, stop by and say hi, have a bite and a beer (or 3), and listen to some great music.

Click on the calendar to find out where all your favorite Keys musicians are playing.

What are your plans tonight?
Whatever you do, have fun and be safe!
Erin Go Bragh!

Featured Restaurant/Bar/Resort: oo-tray

oo-tray Restaurant & Bar
80900 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada, FL
(305) 922-2027

"oo-tray is an Islamorada restaurant creating Global Cuisine with a local farm to table flavor. oo-tray also has a full bar that specializes as a Whiskey Bar."

General Manager Yoel Sanchez and Chef David Matlock have created a truly unique experience in Islamorada.
With an eclectic menu of gourmet delicacies and an exceptional bar, a comfortable atmosphere, great service and music on the porch most nights, oo-tray has been a welcome addition to the upper Keys.

Specializing as a Whiskey Bar, oo-tray does not disappoint.

Specialty drinks like the Barrel Aged Manhattan and the Grapefruit Basil Martini definitely make it worth spending some time at the bar with Omar, Lindsea, Amy and the rest of the staff.

And the food... oh my, the food.  Everything I have tried has been amazing.  Chef Dave puts out some really good grub.  I'm partial to the "Small Plates."  My particular favorite is the Duck Wings with Bourbon Caramel Glaze. Delish!

A local's favorite, oo-tray offers something for everyone.
